Charles Stonehill is the chief finance officer of Better Place. He is responsible for the company’s global financial strategy and management, including corporate controllership, all capital-raising activities, and financing for various growth initiatives. In this role, he also works closely with Better Place operating companies at the country or regional level.
Stonehill has over 30 years of experience in investment banking and capital markets at leading firms. Before joining Better Place, he served as Global Head of Capital Markets at Lazard Frères & Co., head of investment banking for the Americas at Credit Suisse First Boston, CEO of Investment Banking at Barclays de Zoete Wedd (BZW), a unit of Barclays P.L.C. that Credit Suisse acquired, and head of European Equities and Equity Capital Markets at Morgan Stanley & Co. He also served as non-executive Chairman of investment bank Panmure Gordon & Co.
With experience across a range of sectors, including auto, consumer, oil & gas, technology and telecommunications, Stonehill has led financing initiatives from $20 million to $5 billion. In the public sector, he has participated in financing initiatives with France, Spain, the U.K., and several countries in Asia. He has served on the boards of Julius Baer Holding, London Metal Exchange, and Gulfsands Petroleum, among others.
Stonehill received B.A. and M.A. degrees from Oxford University. He recently relocated from London to Palo Alto, California.
