Pakini Nui Wind Farm is owned by Tawhiri Power LLC, a subsidiary of Apollo Power Corporation. It is located at Ka Lae, or South Point, the southernmost point in the United States on Hawaii Island. It is one of three wind farms providing power to a grid which also uses geothermal and run-of-the-river hydro to achieve a renewable portfolio standard of nearly 40 percent, the highest percentage in the Hawaiian Islands.

Puna Geothermal Venture, now owned by Ormat Technologies, Inc. and located in the volcanically active southeast corner of Hawaii Island, “The Big Island”, has been providing up to 30 megawatts of power to Hawaii Electric Light Company for nearly 30 years and is now planning an expansion which will double its output in a few years.  Along with three wind farms and run-of-the-river hydro, with biomass energy production on its way, PGV has helped Hawaii Island to achieve a renewable portfolio standard of nearly 40 percent, the highest percentage in the Hawaiian Islands.
