UNSW agreement charges Australia's electric car future

The University of New South Wales will be among the first Australian organisations to commit to an electric vehicle (EV) fleet as part of a research and infrastructure agreement with EV services provider Better Place.
Better Place will provide charge spots and additional services to support an EV fleet, in a new Solar Precinct to be established by UNSW as part of its Campus Solar initiative.

UNSW’s Centre for Energy and Environmental Markets (CEEM) and Better Place will also begin research, funded by the Australian Research Council, to investigate the impact that charging significant numbers of electric cars will have on Australia’s power grid.

Better Place Australia to supply EV infrastructure and services for Smart Grid Smart Cities Project

Better Place Australia, the leading electric vehicle services provider, today announced it will supply infrastructure and services to support an electric vehicle demonstration in Sydney and the Hunter Region.

The demonstration forms part of EnergyAustralia’s winning ‘Smart Grid Smart Cities’ proposal announced this week.

A $100 million initiative funded by the Federal Government, the „Smart Grid Smart Cities‟ project will see Energy Australia deliver a commercial-scale smart grid across five sites in Sydney and the Hunter Region. The project is designed to improve efficiency in the electricity sector and help reduce carbon emissions.

RACV invests in Better Place to drive electric vehicle uptake

The Royal Automobile Club of Victoria (RACV) today announced it is investing $2 million in Better Place Australia, the leading provider of electric vehicle services and infrastructure.

“This strategic investment in the Better Place project is a demonstration of RACV’s commitment to sustainable transport technologies,” said Brian Negus, RACV General Manager Public Policy.

Better Place Australia secures initial round of funding
November 29, 2009

Better Place Australia today announced it has secured an initial round of funding of $25 million for its planned charging and services network for electric vehicles (EVs).

The funding round was led by Lend Lease Ventures, the venture capital arm of Lend Lease and included investments by ActewAGL and several private investors.

As the lead seed round investor in Better Place Australia, Lend Lease Ventures will also take a seat on Better Place Australia’s board.

Australian automotive and oil industry heavyweights make the switch to Better Place Australia

Better Place Australia, the leading electric vehicle (EV) services provider, in a major momentum announcement has appointed two high profile executives from the automotive and oil industries to join the local executive team.
Alison Terry former, Executive Director of Corporate Affairs for GM Holden Ltd has today been appointed Head of Corporate Affairs and joins Geoff Zippel, formerly of Mobil and ExxonMobil who was recently appointed as Head of Deployment.
