Schiphol airport is home to the first Battery Switch Station (BSS) in Western Europe outside Denmark. The BSS allows electric cars powered by a switchable battery to exchange a depleted battery for a fully charged one in less than five minutes, thereby for the first time enabling non-stop electric driving. 
The BSS is the focal point for an innovative electric taxi project. This project demonstrates the feasibility of non-stop electric driving by running 10 switchable battery Renault Fluence Z.E. electric taxis on the Schiphol-Amsterdam corridor. The taxis drive as much as up to 600 km per day, proving that electric taxi driving works successfully.
