Charging and Demonstration Project in Ontario

     

Better Place has led a successful electric car charging and demonstration project in Ontario, supported by the Ontario Ministry of Economic Development and Trade. Better Place partnered with PowerStream and Veridian, local electricity distribution companies, the City of Toronto, and national charity Evergreen to deploy and manage a charging network, promote electric-car education, and lay groundwork for electric cars in Ontario.

The project demonstrated smart charging via a network of charge spots communicating with a central operations center managed by Better Place. This network model optimizes charging to avoid periods of peak electricity demand and helps ensure electric grid stability, while taking advantage of low electricity prices.

The project also included an interactive demonstration centre at the Evergreen Brickworks to educate and inform the public about electric cars and the Better Place model to enable their mass adoption.
