Germany Launches Electric-Car Initiative
FRANKFURT (Dow Jones)--Germany on Monday took the first concrete step towards forging an alliance between the federal government and some of the country's largest industrial firms to launch a wide-ranging push in the field of electric vehicles. Several task forces were established at a summit in Berlin to work on related projects such as alternative drivetrains, battery technology and infrastructure with first detailed proposals expected to be made in the course of 2010, the German government and the companies said in a joint statement. "The federal government afterwards will decide on the concrete volume of measures to foster research and development," according to the statement.
